Original recipe yields 24 servings
1 pkg. (2-layer size) devil's food cake mix
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups powdered sugar
assorted food colorings
24 oblong milk chocolate-filled cookies
12 pirouette cookies, cut diagonally in half
1/4 cup assorted sprinkles

Prepare cake batter and bake as directed on package for 24 cupcakes. Cool in pan 10 min. Remove from pan to wire racks; cool completely.

Meanwhile, beat cream cheese, butter and vanilla in large bowl with mixer until blended. Add sugar gradually, mixing well after each addition. Add food colorings as necessary to tint frosting to desired shade; mix well. Spoon into pastry bag fitted with large star tip. Refrigerate 45 min.

Reserve 1/2 cup of the cream cheese frosting for later use. Decorate tops of cupcakes with remaining frosting.

Insert 1 oblong cookie, at an angle, into frosting on each cupcake. Place 1 pirouette cookie piece under each oblong cookie to resemble a high heel shoe as shown in photo, using small dab of the reserved frosting to secure cookie pieces to each other. Decorate with sprinkles as desired. Refrigerate 1 hour or until frosting is firm.

How to Soften Cream Cheese
Place completely unwrapped package of cream cheese in microwaveable bowl. Microwave on HIGH 10 sec. or just until softened. Add 15 sec. for each additional package of cream cheese.

For swirled frosting, spoon half the prepared cream cheese frosting into separate bowl. Use food colorings to tint frosting in each bowl a different color. Spoon frosting from one bowl into other bowl; swirl gently with spoon. Use to frost cupcakes as directed.
