Render bacon in Dutch oven. Add stew meat and cook over medium-high heat till browned. Remove meat, reduce heat to medium, add onions and cook till tender. Return meat and add beef broth, Worcestershire, and spices (don't forget bay leaf).
Cover and simmer 1 1/2- 2 hours or until beef is tender. Add veggies, cover and cook about 45 min. or until tender. Remove and discard bay leaf.
At very end thicken stew with 1/2 cup cold water and 1-2 Tbsp. flour. Stir in and boil for 1 minute.
