Discover the science behind floating objects and surface tension with this Float Your Boat experiment! You'll use an empty mac and cheese cup or box to create the body of your boat and liquid dish soap to propel it in this fun and educational boat experiment.
What you need
Empty KRAFT Easy Mac Microwavable Cup (save the lid) OR 1 empty box (7-1/4 oz.) KRAFT Macaroni & Cheese Dinner (save the foil packet)
Scissors
Rimmed cookie sheet
Water
Liquid soap
KRAFT 100% Grated Parmesan Cheese
Make it
(psst...check the boxes next to each step to mark as complete)
Cut a small triangle (1-3 inches) from either empty box, microwavable cup or empty foil packet from your Macaroni & Cheese Dinner. If using the foil packet, fold the sides up.
Fill rimmed cookie sheet with water (a little more than half-way).
Sprinkle a small amount of KRAFT 100% Grated Parmesan Cheese onto the surface of the water.
Place triangle boat anywhere in the pan.
Dip your finger in liquid soap (or you can use a toothpick or cotton swap) and submerge it close to (but not on) boat.
Watch boat and cheese propel away from fingertip. Use fresh water each time you try this experiment.
