Bring the outdoors in with this fun and simple DIY terrarium! With a repurposed glass jar, a little potting soil and some natural elements foraged from your backyard, you can create an indoor DIY terrarium that's sprouting with life.
What you need
Empty and clean CLASSICO Pasta Sauce Jar (24 oz.)
Potting soil for indoor plants (about 1 cup)
Small stone gravel, about ⅓ to ½ cup
Sand, about ⅓ to ½ cup
Seeds (any seed will do!)
Small spray bottle for watering
Sharp tool for poking holes in top of jar.

Start with an EMPTY and CLEAN CLASSICO Jar. Your recycling bin most likely has a good option. Fill the bottom of the jar with a 1-inch layer of potting soil. This will go up to about the 4 oz. marker on the jar.
Add a 1-inch layer of gravel or small rocks for drainage. You can find this around your yard or on a nature walk! Sprinkle a thin layer of sand over the gravel and then top that with a thick layer of potting soil, about 2 inches.
Time for a nature hunt! Look for some moss, pinecones or small ferns to place in your jar. You want to keep about 1 plant per 1-inch diameter, if possible. Generally, plant your largest plant first so you leave enough space. Sprinkle a couple pinches of seeds over the top of the soil. Finish with any small extras, if you decide to use them. Spray the top with water to make the potting soil very moist. Do not pour water over your soil.
Put your terrarium in a sunny spot and watch it sprout!
