Meatloaf basics: Preparing the Meat

Meatloaf can be one of the easiest dishes to make. By following a few basic steps, it’s easy to make a moist and flavorful meatloaf. First, you'll need to prepare the meat.

Option 1: Mix in Bowl

PLACE 2 lbs. ground beef (or chicken, pork, or turkey) in a bowl.

ADD 1 pkg. (6 oz.) STOVE TOP stuffing mix.

ADD 1 cup water.

ADD ¼ cup KRAFT Original Barbecue Sauce.

ADD 2 lightly beaten eggs.

MIX just until combined. Overmixing can create a tough meatloaf.

Note: The stuffing is key to enhancing the flavor and moisture in the meatloaf. It also adds texture so your loaf keeps its shape.

Option 2: Mix in Plastic Bag

For a no-mess option, seal a plastic bag and massage ingredients inside the bag to combine ingredients and form the loaf.

 Meatloaf Basics: Forming & Baking

  • Line a 13x9 inch baking dish with foil for easy clean up.
    • You can also use foil-lined loaf pans or muffin tins if you prefer 
  • Form a loaf with your meat mixture inside the pan.
  • Brush meatloaf with remaining ¼ cup of barbecue sauce
  • Bake in preheated 375°F oven for an hour or until the center of the meatloaf reads 160°F with a food thermometer.
