How to Make Homemade Freezer Jam - Instructions
- Start by cleaning your containers. Clean and dry five 1-cup plastic containers with lids.
- Using a potato masher, crush 1 quart of fully ripe hulled strawberries to make 2 cups of crushed strawberries.
- Add 4 cups of granulated sugar to the crushed strawberries and blend together. Let stand for ten minutes, stirring occasionally. The sugar will help release the juices of the strawberries.
- In a small saucepan, mix ¾ cup water with 1 package of SURE.JELL fruit pectin. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. The pectin will be used to set, or thicken, your homemade jam. Boil the mixture for one minute.
- Slowly add the pectin to the crushed strawberries and sugar mixture. Stir continuously for three minutes or until the sugar is mostly dissolved and no longer grainy.
- Fill each plastic container with your homemade jam up to a ½ inch from the top of the container. Wipe any excess jam from the edges of the container and cover with a lid.
- Let each container of homemade jam stand at room temperature for 24-hours and then enjoy as a spread or use in a delicious dessert recipe! This jam can be refrigerated for up to three weeks or frozen for up to a year.
